Animation
An excerpt from Plato's Republic, the 'Allegory of the Cave' is a classic commentary on the human condition. We have adapted and brought it to life by shooting over 4,000 still photographs of John Grigsby's wonderful claymation. The look was achieved by use of candlelight in a real fire that burned at the back of the set.
Screenplay (unproduced)
When all the oaks on the island are gone and Seven have died, the treasure of Oak Island will be found. Who will be the Eighth Man?
Short
Marc Ladouceur has taken over the family cattle ranch from his father, but as the summer draws to a close, things are getting rough for Canadian ranchers. Onerous decisions by the Food Inspection Agency, a US embargo on Canadian beef - everything is playing against them. The ranchers mobilize, but the Ladouceur farm is sinking deeper into debt and the situation is taking its toll on Marc and Julianne's marriage. Is there any way out? Writer/Director Jocelyn Forgues will be attending PEI Int'l Film Festival
Screenplay (unproduced)
This script is a finalist but will not be included in the reading. Emulsion is a dramatic neo-noir about a modern-day everyman, Dane Allen, who is forced out of his stagnant existence when he is unwittingly drawn into a vast corporate and social conspiracy. Once he realizes the severity of his situation, he must fight to regain control of a life he never fully enjoyed living. It is a story of discovery, manipulation, and the never-ending struggle between complacency and self-actualization, told through the story of a man evolving from the absolutely forgettable to a potent activist bringing the forces that control his life to their knees.
Short
Their playground was stolen, now they want it back.
Canadian (Maple Leaf)
'Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.' - George Bernard ShawCharlie Habberstock was 56 when he died for the first time. Otherwise a rather unexceptional man, he went on to die three more times, much to the chagrin of his wife, his friends and neighbours.
Canadian (Maple Leaf)
Richard, a 40-year-old bachelor, has decided to overcome his overwhelming shyness so that he can at last get the courage to talk to Catherine, the woman he's loved in silence for many years. He tries hypnotism-therapy, hoping to escape his ever-present mother, his demanding dog, his sleazy boss.... and himself. Will Catherine finally notice him or will he stay invisible to her and the rest of the world? Director will be in attendance for the screening.
Animation
On a quiet evening on the Canadian East Coast, a local fisherman heads out for some fishing before bed. As he fishes, a friendly spider drops in from his web to say hello. The fisherman is not impressed and swats the spider away, but the spider drops in twice more. Becoming distracted and fed up, the fisherman tries to pull the spider from his web, but in the process is pulled up into space. The fisherman looks around to see an alien fishing from his spaceship. The fisherman realizes that the web he is hanging from is actually a fishing line, and the spider has been the bait all along.
